Food Science students of Our Lady Lourdes College Mankon on Friday 20 February 2026 stepped into the practical world of agro processing during an educational visit to the North West Cooperative Association, NWCA Ltd.
As they prepare for their end of course examinations, the trip addressed a familiar challenge for technical learners, translating theory into lived experience within a functioning industry setting. They were received by Kahbit Emmaculate Voma, Chief of Administration and Personnel, alongside Neng Delphine, Head of Marketing, who guided them through the cooperative’s operations and product range, including the flagship Kola coffee in its various processed forms.
An interactive session followed where students raised questions on production methods, preservation standards and distribution networks, receiving detailed responses that clarified key academic concepts.
The visit then moved to the processing plant where technicians demonstrated each stage of coffee transformation from bean treatment to packaging, before the group toured demonstration farms and the nursery to understand crop management at source.
The experience concluded at the cooperative’s head office coffee shop, where students tasted the finished product, completing a full value chain journey.
The encounter offered a practical solution to the gap between classroom instruction and industrial reality, reinforcing lessons on quality control, value addition and market dynamics.
Beyond examination preparation, the exposure is expected to deepen professional interest in agri food careers and strengthen appreciation of local production systems, highlighting experiential learning as a vital tool in building competent future professionals.
