Catholic Church: Cameroon Bishops meet Pope Francis, discuss Anglophone Crisis, others

Bishops of Cameroon have ended a one week visit to the Vatican. The Visit from the 10 to the 16 of September 2023 is a tradition of the Roman Catholic that instructs Bishops within an Episcopal Conference; this case Cameroon, to visit the Vatican; Seat of the Catholic Church every five years in what is known within the church's circles as Visita ad Limina Apostolorum meaning visit to the Thresholds of the Apostles (Peter and Paul). AJC-PROSANTE: Jato Richard to lead elected pioneer NW Bureau

By Bakah Derick The Cameroon Association of Scientific Journalists (AJC-Prosante) North Chapter has elected a pioneer executive. The pioneer executive led by Jato Richard Tonga as President was elected during an extraordinary assemble of the association on Friday 11 August 2023 in Bafoussam. The experienced radio personality was elected by acclamation at the helm of an eight-man team with the mission to ensure that scientific information is communicated to the North West public in a clear, concise and understandable way.  The New AJC-PROSANTE NW executive While installing the executive, North West Regional Delegate of Communication Njike Celestine noted that scientific journalism can play a critical role in bridging the gap between science and the general public when it is facts based. Frisco City- Texas: 1st August proclaimed Day for Cameroonian born Jennifer Achu

National Interpools 2023: Bafmeng United FA Finish Runner-up after ISOSHA, Clinch Elite II Ticket

By Ngenwie Azeh S.  Bafmeng United Football Academy (BUFA) has finished runner-up at the just ended 2023 National interpool in Yaoundé. The North West flag bearer was knocked off by ISOSHA of Limbe with a 2-0 score at the final on Sunday 30 July 2023. Goals by Albert Tiku 55’ and Babo Brandon 60’ and no reply from BUFA gave the South West representative at the interpools the goal medal. Prior to the final, both sides had clinched Elite Two championship tickets after seeing off their Semi-finals opponents.   While regretting that the Ndeghum Spear lost the final, The North West Regional Football League in a Facebook post has congratulated ISOSHA for emerging champions of the national tourney. The league however notes that the main objective was about bringing home an Elite II ticket.   BUFA qualified on Thursday 27 July 2023 after knocking out Volcan of Noun 2-1 during the Semi-finals.  ISOSHA on their part qualified after beating Pouma FC 2-0. 

SDF Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi, ‘Goes Home’ as Grand Cordon of the Cameroon Order of Merit

By Bakah Derick The Chairman of Cameroon’s frontline opposition political party; the Social Democratic Front (SDF) has been buried in his native village Baba II in Santa Subdivision, Mezam Division North West Region. Late Ni John Fru Ndi who died on June 12 with over 33 years at the helm of the SDF was buried on Saturday 29 July 2023 after being raised to the Dignity of the Grand Cordon of the Cameroon Order of Merit.  To decorate the Chairman posthumously as representative of the President of the Republic was the Vice Prime Minister, Jean Kuete.  The decoration was part of an official funeral decreed for Ni John Fru Ndi by longtime political rival President Paul Biya.  The official funeral according to Cameroon legislation is organized and conducted by the government to honor the life and service of  prominent public figures. MTN Foundation inclusive Digital Academy goes operational.

By a Guest writer  An inclusive Digital Academy programme has gone operational on Tuesday 25 July 2023 in Abong-Mbang, East Region of Cameroon. The programme is the outcome of a partnership agreement signed between MTN Foundation and IAI to improve the digital literacy rate of the Cameroonian population, particularly young people, women, the disabled and underprivileged, seeking socio-professional integration.  The Digital Academy training programme is a non-curriculum training system for basic digital skills. In this first phase, 600 people will be trained in eight (8) sessions, which will take place successively in the towns of Abong-Mbang, Mbalmayo, Ebolowa, Garoua, Bafang, Ngaoundéré, Maroua and Mokolo. The participants will be introduced to the basics of computer science, use of smartphones, Internet-browsing and online self-protection.
