FECAFOOT Election Rerun: Sports Journalist, two others to battle GA delegate post

By Bakah Derick

The Electoral Commission of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has made public the list of candidates for the positions of regional league presidents and regional league delegates to the federal general assembly to take part in the partial election rerun of November and December 2021.
The list published at night fall on Tuesday 22 March 2022 concerns the North West and seven other regions in the country.

According to the list by Magistrate Schlick Gilbert the electoral committee president and his colleagues, three candidates have fulfilled the required conditions to contest for the position. Jani Benedict, Presidentof the North West referees association, Murom Divine Football manager and consultant and Nji Nelson Chefor Sports Journalist have been retained for the office
The press release announcing the list goes on to declare Nchinda Charles disqualified for failure to provide complete endorsement letters. He like many others disqualified have been given 48hours to appeal the decision.

Editor's notes

The election rerun in the North West Region is to fill a position created by the movement of one of the delegates from the region into the executive committee of the FECAFOOT at the end of the December 11, 2021 elections in Yaounde.

Though at the end of the Monday 1,  November 2021 regional elections in Bamenda it was expected that Hon Agho Oliver by virtue of name position on the list as well as public knowledge was to be North West executive committee member, it is not clear how the current regional league President and delegate to the general assembly became the executive committee member.
His being an executive committee member automatically disqualified him from the position  of delegate thus creating room for a rerun.  It should however be said that the North West position at the executive committee is statutory and not elective once the election of delegates to the general assembly is done at the region. The regional league representative must be a delegate to the general assembly and may eventually enter the executive committee or the board of directors.

Hon Agho Oliver we are told still remains a member of the federal general assembly despite being butted out of the executive committee member position during the electioneering process.

He is yet to be seen anywhere concerning football with the current leadership of the regional league since the December 11, 2021 elections and the this only confirms that the unity in the North West football house could still be far away...
