Dreamland Connect bets early to ignite activity at the industrial zone

Bamenda’s industrial zone has long suffered from a credibility gap. Despite incentives and strategic positioning, investor uptake remained low, with many adopting a wait and see approach.

Edison Fru Ndi, Dreamland Connect

Dreamland Connect’s entry through the Mutan Market project is beginning to alter that equation.

Awarded the contract under the PROLOG programme, the company has moved beyond mobilisation into active construction, setting a pace that contrasts sharply with years of inertia. The decision, according to the Chief Executive Edison Fru Ndi, was rooted in calculated risk taking.

“People risk nothing against nothing… as a businessman, you must be willing to take measurable risk,” he said.

That risk is now materialising into visible progress. Beyond the market structures, the company has also initiated complementary investments within the zone, including land clearance for a mineral water production project and others. Five solar powered boreholes have been installed, each with a production capacity of up to 10,000 litres per hour, with water quality tests scheduled at the Centre Pasteur in Yaoundé.

Edison Fru Ndi points to the environmental advantage of the site as a strategic asset. The area, he notes, remains largely free from pollution, with minimal residential pressure and limited sanitation risks that typically affect water sources.

The approach reflects a broader investment logic, combining infrastructure development with production capacity. It also reinforces confidence in the zone’s viability, providing tangible evidence that enterprise can take root.

His message to other investors is direct.

“They should not follow the masses… they should be creative,” he said, urging entrepreneurs to look beyond prevailing caution and take advantage of existing incentives tied to the zone’s special status.

The project is also generating immediate local impact. Construction relies heavily on labour drawn from surrounding communities, injecting income into the local economy and building early ownership around the development.

The expected outcome is a gradual shift in investor behaviour. As Dreamland Connect demonstrates that large scale projects can be executed and sustained, the industrial zone may begin to attract additional players, triggering the long awaited clustering effect needed for industrial takeoff.
