Grief has gripped members of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon following a road accident that struck a church choir travelling for a religious rally in the North West Region, leaving one person dead and several others injured.

Letter from Moderator and accident seen...

The accident occurred on Saturday, 14 March 2026 at about 3 Corners in Tabenken within the Nkambe Central Subdivision of Donga-Mantung Division. Members of the Hallelujah Choir Group from Mbejah Congregation in Kudu Parish were reportedly on their way to Kungi for their annual rally scheduled for Sunday when the incident happened.

According to a pastoral message issued on Monday, 16 March from the Synod Office in Buea by the Moderator of the church, The Rt Rev. Miki Hans Abia, twenty four people were involved in the crash. One of them, Sister Nfor Anna Bih, died from injuries sustained during the accident.

Many others were injured and are currently receiving treatment at the Annex Regional Hospital in Nkambe.

In the message addressed to the Hallelujah Choir Group of Mbejah Congregation, the church leadership expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing the news as heartbreaking for the entire denomination.

On behalf of the church, the Moderator conveyed condolences to the bereaved family, the choir group, the congregation in Mbejah, Kudu Parish and the wider Donga Mantung Presbytery. He assured them that the church stands with them in prayer during what he described as a painful moment.

The church also expressed concern for those who survived the accident but remain hospitalised, praying for their recovery and restoration to health.

To demonstrate the church’s solidarity with the affected families, the Moderator announced that the National Secretary for Lay Training and Evangelism has been dispatched to Donga Mantung to personally convey condolences and offer support to the injured and the bereaved.

The message cited the biblical assurance from Psalm 34 verse 18 that the Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those crushed in spirit, calling on the faithful to draw comfort from their faith during the period of mourning.
