Legal practitioners from Donga Mantung Division in Cameroon's North West Region over the weekend, converged in Bamenda in a two day maiden Annual General Assembly.
Meeting for the first time, deliberations preceded a courtesy visit to Fon Nfor Ahmidou of Nkambe, President of the North West House of Chiefs and Vice president of the Regional Executive Council.
The General Assembly which held from Friday October 24 to Saturday October 25,2026, served as the foundational armour of Donga Mantung Judicial Family, DOMAJUF, an outfit that brings together Magistrates, Lawyers, Bailiffs, Pupil lawyers and court clerks of Donga Mantung descent.
For two days, the legal minds unleashed the vision and mission of the association, pledging to work together for the good of their division.
NW HOUSE OF CHIEFS ACCORD ROYAL BLESSINGS.
The meeting unfolded on Friday October 24 with a visit to Fon Nfor Ahmidou of Nkambe, President of the North West House of Chiefs. Clad in traditional colours and other traditional paraphernalia, the legal minds were received by the Fon in the deliberative chamber of the North West House of Chiefs.
Addressing the legal minds, Fon Nfor lauded the initiative emphasising on unity as the bedrock of the success of the association.
"We believe that there is nothing on this earth that is more than unity and if there is no love, we will not see this unity that we are trying to build," said Fon Nfor Ahmidou invoking, "God Almighty and the gods of our land to build this foundation because I believe this is the base"
He also highlighted the critical role the judicial family will play in supporting traditional rulers. He explained that many palaces unknowingly handle cases beyond their jurisdiction, such as criminal matters, and expressed optimism that the new forum will guide chiefs on the limits of customary law and the proper legal channels to follow.
He urged the judicial officers to be instruments of reconciliation and proper legal guidance.
ENTER DOMAJUF PRESIDENT.
Speaking during the visit, Justice Ngwayi Lucy Eyong, DOMAJUF acting President said the association could not launch such an important family union without first receiving the blessings of the Fon, whom she described not only as the Fon of Nkambe but as the father of the entire Donga Mantung and President of the North West House of Chiefs.
"We are privileged that the chief of chiefs of the North West is one of us, is our own father. We heartily congratulate you on that election. It shows that a lot can come from Donga Mantung and with your guidance, we are sure to move higher and higher," she said.
Justice Ngwayi disclosed that DOMAJUF currently has 160 members drawn from across the country, including Buea, Douala, Yaounde and beyond, with many more still expected. She emphasized that the need for unity and a common voice among judicial officers from the division was the driving force behind the creation of the association.
According to her, the union aims to speak one language for the development of Donga Mantung, to advise the population on legal issues, and to inspire young people from the division to embrace careers in the judiciary.
Recalling her personal experience, Justice Ngwayi noted that in 2006 when she became a magistrate, she was shocked to learn she was the first female magistrate from the entire Donga Mantung Division. She expressed delight that today, the division can boast of many more lawyers and magistrates, and said one of the objectives of DOMAJUF is to encourage and mentor children from the area to join the profession.
"We wish to inform you that we will be here this evening and the meeting continues tomorrow. With your blessings, we are blessed and protected and we will surely go back safely to where we come from," she concluded, while appealing to the Fon to continue to check on the association and keep its spirit alive even when they are silent.
DOMAJUF HONOURS IT'S ICONS.
When deliberations unfolded on Saturday October 25, several resolutions were passed including paying glowing tribute to legal luminaries from Donga Mantung who have distinguished themselves in the service of justice, both those of blessed memory and the living legends who continue to inspire a new generation.
Among those honoured were highly respected figures including Justice Njamshi, Justice Jato, Justice Ngwayi, and erudite jurist Njobara Pius Nfor, whose contributions to the growth of the judiciary at divisional, regional and national levels were described as invaluable.
