Press Freedom: BBC reporter abducted in Bamenda

A reporter for the British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC) has been abducted in Bamenda North West of Cameroon. The Cameroon Journalists' Trade Union (CJTU) North West chapter published an alert following the incident at night on Thursday 26 May 2022.

"Information reaching the North West Chapter of the Cameroon Journalists' Trade Union (CJTU) indicate that one of her members Frederick Takang has been abducted in Bamenda. The Correspondent for the BBC World Service was abducted this Thursday 26 May 2022 in the early hours of the evening and taken to an unknown destination together with his silver Camry car." The alert read. 


No details were immediately available as concerns his abductors but www.hilltopvoices.com got Information that Takang was abducted at mile 2 Nkwen.
At the time of this report, Information reaching us say Takang might be out of danger. Hilltopvoices cannot say if he was freed or he escaped or security forces intervened. We have not been able to reach him even by phone 

Frederick Takang is now one of three reporters abducted in the region since the start of the ongoing armed conflict
