Hon. Agho Oliver Bamenju begins participation today in Manila in talks shaping a new global approach to sovereign debt.

Hon. Agho Oliver Bamenju, Member of Parliament for Tubah in the North West Region of Cameroon, has begun participating today, 21 January 2026, in the Southern-led Global Debt Strategy Meeting in Manila, Philippines.

The two-day meeting, convened by DADs, AFRODAD, EURODAD and APMMDD, brings together Southern-led movements and experts working on debt justice and fairer economic systems. Its main focus is to mobilise support for a United Nations Framework Convention on Sovereign Debt, following the decision in June 2025 in Seville to begin an intergovernmental process towards such a convention.

One of the youngest MPs in Cameroon, Hon. Agho Oliver’s presence places the country within a global effort to reform how debt crises are handled, especially for developing nations.

From Tubah to Manila, his participation reflects a growing link between local realities and global economic decisions that shape livelihoods, public services and development.
