President Paul Biya has been sworn in for an eighth term in office, vowing to steer Cameroon towards unity, stability, and renewed progress. The ceremony at the “Paul Biya Glass House” in Ngoa-Ekele, Yaoundé, on Thursday 6 November 2025 marked the formal start of another seven-year mandate for the 92-year-old leader, who has ruled since 1982.
Paul Biya addressing the National AssemblyIn his inaugural address, Biya struck a tone of continuity and reconciliation, urging Cameroonians to “rally” around the nation’s shared interests.
“We have certainly accomplished a lot, but we still have so much to accomplish together,” he said, stressing that “Cameroon is our common good.”
He announced that the wellbeing of young people and women will be “at the heart” of his new term’s agenda, pledging policies to improve inclusion and opportunity. On security, Biya described terrorism as “a plague that must be fought vigorously wherever it shows its hideous face,” promising firm measures to restore peace and order.
“I would like to reach out to everyone and everyone,” he added, repeating his call for national unity. “Order will reign,” he declared, closing a speech that sought to balance reassurance with resolve as the country enters another chapter under his long leadership.
