Road works have officially begun on the St Paul’s Junction–Foncha Junction stretch in Bamenda, fulfilling a pledge made by the Bamenda III Council earlier this year.
Road under construction
The project was first announced at the close of the March 2025 council session, during which Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwe outlined plans to improve road infrastructure in the municipality. On Sunday 3 August 2025, heavy machinery including a grader and a compactor moved onto the site to begin rehabilitation works.
Speaking to Hilltopvoices, Mayor Fongu confirmed that the project is executed by the Bamenda III Council.
“We promised this road in March 2025 and today, we have started. This road will be tarred,” he assured, noting that the works are part of a wider development agenda for Bamenda III and surrounding communities.
The St Paul’s–Foncha junction corridor is a vital link in the municipality, connecting residential areas, schools, and businesses. For years, residents have contended with potholes, dust, and flooding along the stretch, making transportation difficult. The upgrade is expected to ease movement, enhance safety, and boost economic activity in the area.
The Bamenda III Council has in recent months earned praise for several development projects, including the tarring of the Mbelewa–Mile 4–New Road stretch, the PMI - New road and water extension projects to underserved quarters, and improvements to market and community facilities.
As road users welcome the start of this latest project, expectations are high that it will be completed promptly and to standard, further cementing the council’s growing reputation for delivering on its promises.
