Elite One Championship 2022: Defender Ngwan Brian creates surprise as attacker in PWD's win against Fovu

By Bakah Derick

Ngwan Brian Nyaba apparently was the biggest surprise for many during day two of the ongoing Elite One championship. Deciding to play him as an attacker against Fovu of Baham at the Mbouda Municipal Arena on Wednesday 23 March 2022 was undoubtedly a reserved surprise by the technical staff led on the said occasion by the technical director and deputy trainer Tama Wango.

Not just did Ngwan Brian show gratitude to the coaches for using him as an attacker by playing well but also went on to score the opener for the Abakwa Boys from the penalty spot at the 50th minute.
"Nyaba played upfront today like a striker... he was excellent; he is the man of the match for me scoring that penalty and playing his role very excellently keeping the defense of Fovu of Baham right in their own half. It was an excellent game for Nyaba Brian and we hope he continues in that spirit." Tama Wango told PWD media

Generally known around the country as a defender, Ngwan Brian was initially an attacker.

"I started playing as a defender when we went for a game in Ndgoundere and one of our defenders Yaya Taure had an issue and by Coach then Kone Emmanuel decided to use me as a defender." Ngwan Brian said

Joining PWD about four years ago from Bang Bullet FC of Nkambe as a defender, Ngwan has since then kept the position at the right back for "Ngia P" and during his callups for the intermediate national football team of Cameroon until Wednesday's revelation in Mbouda

"My coach at PWD already wanted to use me as an attacker last season in a game in Douala and even the game against Bamboutos of Mbouda. I didn't talk to him about my desire to play in that position but he discovered that I could shoot well and so he decided to use be there for this game." Ngwan added
While expressing his readiness to continue playing as an attacker should his coach find him worthy and his teammates stay fit, the promising player from Dunga Mantung has become an important element in the Pagou David project for PWD Bamenda particularly with his ability to play in the various positions.
