New agreement targets prevention, healthy ageing and stronger community health systems across Cameroon

The Reconciliation and Development Association, RADA, has signed a strategic partnership agreement with the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services, CBCHS, aimed at strengthening the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases in communities across Cameroon.

The partnership was officially launched during a ceremony that underscored the growing burden of non-communicable diseases and the urgent need to promote healthy ageing, improve life expectancy and increase the number of healthier life years among the population.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of RADA, Ferdinant M. Sonyuy, said non-communicable diseases were rising rapidly in African countries but remained preventable and manageable with the right strategies and collaboration. He stressed that partnerships were essential for institutions seeking to respond effectively to complex health challenges.

“NCDs are rapidly growing in African countries, yet they are not inevitable and are manageable,” Sonyuy said.

He added that the role of RADA as a technical partner would be to strengthen vision, sharpen strategy, support evidence-based programming and align institutional efforts with national and global best practices. According to him, institutions grow in stature when they commit to collaboration, welcome ideas and pursue excellence.

The Director of CBCHS, Ngum Samuel, said both organisations shared a common interest in improving community health outcomes. He described the partnership as action-oriented, noting that it went beyond formalities to focus on joint implementation.

“This partnership is peculiar because it is not just about signing on paper, but about implementing actions together,” Ngum said.

He pointed out that while infectious and tropical diseases had dominated the health landscape in the past, non-communicable diseases had now become a serious and growing concern. The agreement, he said, would play a key role in advancing NCD prevention and control for the population.

The session concluded with the formal presentation and signing of the strategic partnership agreement between CBCHS and RADA.
