Campaign Pulse 2025: Akere Muna holds firm in Bello Bouba coalition despite legal storm from UNIVERS Party leadership

Akere Muna has reaffirmed his position within the opposition coalition led by Bello Bouba Maigari, insisting that unity remains the only viable path to challenge the ruling CPDM, despite mounting controversy around his decision.

Since stepping down from the presidential race to back Bello Bouba, the former Univers party candidate has faced criticism and even legal action. Univers president, Prof. Nkou Mvondo, has reportedly filed a case alleging that Muna entered the coalition without the formal consent of the party.

Yet Akere Muna remains unshaken. Speaking on Thursday 2 October 2025, he defended his choice as a response to popular demand for opposition unity in the face of what he described as “a regime deploying a massive fraud machine.”

“I know some feel disappointed or even betrayed, but I say again: these are not ordinary promises. They are the conditions necessary for Cameroon’s rebirth. The fight against corruption, federalism, the release of political prisoners, dual nationality, and an inclusive solution to the North West crisis are our non-negotiables,” Akere Muna declared.

He and Bello Bouba have appeared together in a series of campaign events, presenting their alliance as a historic opportunity to end four decades of CPDM dominance.

Speaking in the video shared via his personal Facebook account in English and French, Akere Muna called on other opposition candidates to follow his lead.

“The people’s cry is clear. We have to unite or fail. We cannot afford to scatter the votes and hand another victory to the system we seek to change.”

Despite the alleged court case, Akere Muna has pressed ahead, framing the legal challenge as part of the turbulence expected when entrenched interests are threatened.

The coalition, which also includes Ateki Seta Caxton, is now being billed by its architects as the “opposition’s broadest front” in recent memory. Whether the legal disputes will derail momentum remains unclear, but for now, Akere Muna appears determined to prove that his gamble for unity is stronger than the storms it has triggered.
