Images from the Palais des Congrès in Yaoundé show a packed hall as the Constitutional Council continues hearings on pre-election petitions ahead of Cameroon’s 12 October presidential poll. The session, chaired by Council President Clément Atangana, has 35 petitions on the table, drawing political scientists, law professors, and presidential hopefuls among them Maurice Kamto and Issa Tchiroma to witness the proceedings firsthand.

The high-profile hearing is unfolding under heavy public scrutiny, given Kamto’s position as one of the country’s most prominent challengers to the long-serving incumbent.
So far, five rulings have been delivered. Two requests have been rejected outright: one from Léon Theiller Onana, who sought to challenge President Paul Biya’s candidacy and demanded the dismissal of certain Council members; and another from Vincent Sosthène Fouda, who contested the rejection of his own candidacy.
The three other cases all submitted by Bertin Kisob of the Cameroon Party for Social Justice (CPSJ) have been declared inadmissible for failing to meet the procedural requirements.
