New magazine launch in Bamenda promises shift in Development Communication

While newspapers, radio, and television offer daily or hourly updates on current events, magazines often take a different route providing in-depth analysis, reflective commentary, and thought leadership on specific issues. It is within this space for deeper engagement that Time Watch Global Magazine has positioned itself, promising to bring a fresh perspective to journalism and development communication in Cameroon and beyond.

Launched on Saturday, May 24, 2025, in Bamenda, Time Watch Global Magazine officially entered the media landscape during a ceremony that brought together communication experts, academics, and media practitioners. The magazine is the initiative of Professor Cheo Victor, a veteran journalist and communication scholar with over 25 years of experience.

Speaking during the launch, Professor Victor Choe described the magazine as the result of a long-term vision aimed at promoting meaningful and impactful communication.

“It has been a long journey, but today marks a new beginning for global journalism,” he stated.
He emphasised that the publication’s mission is to create content that promotes awareness, encourages critical thinking, and supports development initiatives.

Editorialist Professor Muluh Henry said the magazine’s launch was “long overdue,” but noted its arrival could not have come at a better time.
Introducing Professor Victor to attendees, Dr. Tallom Gilbert Tanue referred to him as “an academic visionary” known for bridging the gap between theory and practice in the field of communication.

“His ability to translate complex ideas into real-world communication strategies is what sets him apart,” Dr. Tallom said.

Dr. Vincent Manzie, a communication lecturer at the University of Bamenda, emphasised the publication’s relevance in today’s fast-paced media environment.

“Communication for development is an ingredient that will make contemporary journalists productive in this competitive world. Stories that create awareness and promote development are what contemporary audiences want to consume.” he stated

CBC Radio Station Manager Bah Emmanuel described the magazine’s launch as both timely and motivational.
“Time Watch Global Magazine is not only a novelty in contemporary journalism, but an inspiration that will push publishers to work hard,” he remarked.

With a clear editorial direction focused on development issues, Time Watch Global Magazine aims to become a platform for constructive discourse and strategic communication. While its long-term impact remains to be seen, its debut has already set the tone for a publication that seeks to go beyond headlines by engaging readers with stories that matter.
