PIC 2023 annual Report: Bamenda III Council Stands out on Performance Measurement

The Bamenda III Council has emerged as one of the leading councils in the North West Region where councilors actively participate in management and financial resources properly managed. This information is  contained in the 2023 activity report of the Public Independent Conciliator (PIC) for the North West published on Tuesday 5 March 2024. 

The report highlighted the council's strong performance, with an impressive 96% of respondents expressing confidence and satisfaction with the administration. The report also revealed that the Bamenda III Council excelled in managing financial resources, with 92% of workers perceiving the management positively.

Tamfu Simon Fai, who presented the summary report in Bamenda, mentioned that it has been submitted to the President of the Republic to provide an overview of the state of relations between citizens and regional and council services. According to him, the report falls in line with the PIC's mission "make sure that good services are rendered by the council's to the population, void of discrimination and marginalization and in respect of human rights." 

Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwe of the Bamenda III Council had expressed his satisfaction with the PIC's declaration, describing it as an encouragement to continue their work towards building a people-oriented municipality. He reiterated his commitment to combating bribery, corruption, extortion, unfair taxation, misappropriation, and mismanagement within his council area.

Despite facing challenges such as security issues, Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwe emphasized his dedication to running a people-oriented council that prioritizes the needs and concerns of residents in Bamenda III. 

"This recognition underscores out commitment as a council commitment to transparency and accountability in its operations. " Fongu said 

The council's recognition for its effective management and high public confidence sets a positive example for local governance in the region where many council's were found wanting by the PIC report card. As the Bamenda III Council continues to focus on citizen engagement and transparent governance, it aims to further strengthen its relationship with the community and enhance service delivery for the benefit of all residents.
The activity report according to the PIC follows gathered through a survey which focused on administration and management of regional and council services, the protection of rights and freedoms of users and beneficiaries, the practice of inclusiveness and non-discrimination in the treatment of all categories of service users and fulfillment of ethical obligations in the conduct and service delivery.
