PWD Bamenda: David Pagou leaves despite impressive record in three years

By Bakah Derick

The departure of multiple title winning coach for PWD Bamenda David Pagou, has been announced. The announcement has been made this Monday 25 July 2022 on the Facebook page of the Abakwa Boys.
David Pagou Former PWD Coach

"PWD Social Football Club of Bamenda has ended it's working relationship with coach David Pagou, on mutual consent, following the expiration of his contract. David Pagou helped to write a beautiful page in our history  and it's with regret that we have reached this difficult decision. David Pagou joined the Abakwa Boys in September 2019, and leave after winning the Elite one championship and the Cameroon cup. We wish Coach David Pagou the best of luck in his professional career. Once an Abakwa Boy, always an Abakwa Boy." The announcement reads

The highs

David Pagou arrived Bamenda at the peak of an armed conflict that threatened even the professional football league with countless lockdowns yet he grabbed the league title in 2020; the first in the clubs over 45years history which qualified the team for the CAF Champions League. He went on to clinch the 2021 Cameroon Cup trophy beating News stars of Douala in Yaoundé. It is from PWD Bamenda that Pagou was named Deputy trainer of the Intermediate National Team of Cameroon during the 2020 African Nations Championship.
The Lows

His participation at the 2020 CAF Champions League ended during the first round. This however didn't give PWD Bamenda leadership any reason to fire the tactician. He was offered another year though he will win the Cameroon cup but without the opportunity to go continental. The experience he gathered during his CAF Champions League participation will certainly not be of use to the Abakwa Boys. His inability to keep some of his key players like L. Boyomo (the leagues highest goal scorer in 2020), B. Yamkam ( right back) amongst others didn't go well with some supporters. Not finishing amongst the best two teams of his pool during the just ended Championship and early elimination from the Cameroon Cup race as defending champions may certainly be considered low.
After renewal of contract in early 2022

David Pagou has however taken to his Facebook page to thank Bamenda a sign of confirming his departure despite renewing his contract in early 2022. His next destination is not known neither is his successor at PWD Bamenda but the fact is that David Pagou remains a highly priced football manager in Cameroon after coming from Renaissance of Ngoumou to join the Abakwa Boys in 2019.
With his record at PWD, Pagou's successor will only be seen to have done something new if he/she wins a continental tittle or two league titles or two Cameroon Cup trophies.

For now, David Pagou is the most successful manager the club has ever had.
"Good luck  El Tactico David Pagou (PKD). It was great working with you for the past three seasons. Probably the best coach in the history of the Abakwa Boys" PWD Bamenda Media Officer Afeseh Apong writes on his Facebook page.
