As workers across Cameroon marked Labour Day 2026, the National President of the Nkwen Cultural and Development Association (NCDA), Dr Mrs Mariana Ndifor, delivered a message centred on dignity in labour, collective responsibility and the need for sustained commitment to community progress.
Addressing sons and daughters of Nkwen at home and in the diaspora, Dr Ndifor Mariana commended their resilience and contribution across sectors, describing their daily efforts as the foundation of both community advancement and national growth. She stressed that Labour Day goes beyond celebration, serving as a reminder of the value of hard work, sacrifice and integrity in building stable families and prosperous societies.
“No labour is small. No earning is small. Every effort counts,” she reiterated, referencing a message earlier delivered during the association’s quarterly general meeting in Kumba. She urged workers to remain committed to excellence despite prevailing economic and social challenges.
The NCDA president highlighted the diversity of occupations represented within the Nkwen community, noting that teachers, farmers, traders, civil servants, entrepreneurs and artisans all play critical roles in sustaining livelihoods and driving development. She emphasised that recognising the dignity of every form of work is essential to fostering mutual respect and productivity.
Dr Ndifor also called for stronger unity among community members, encouraging them to support one another and promote a culture of service and accountability. According to her, collective effort remains key to building a more cohesive and economically resilient Nkwen.
Her message comes at a time when many communities in Cameroon continue to grapple with economic pressures and limited opportunities, placing renewed attention on grassroots initiatives and community-driven development.
She concluded by urging members of the NCDA and the wider Nkwen community to remain hopeful and focused, describing their labour as a lasting contribution to future generations.
Labour Day, observed annually on May 1, recognises the contributions of workers and the role of labour in national development.
