Pope Leo XIV has landed at Bamenda International Airport at 10:45 a.m., marking a historic return to Bamenda 41 years after Pope John Paul II last visited the city in 1985.
The Pontiff has been received by local by civil authorities, clergy and a cross section of the population.
The Bamenda stop is a central moment of the Pope’s visit to Cameroon. He is expected to hold a peace meeting with community representatives at St. Joseph’s Metropolitan Cathedral before returning to the airport later in the day to celebrate an open air Mass focused on peace and justice.
The visit carries deep symbolic weight, bringing the papacy back to a region marked by prolonged conflict, with expectations that the Pope’s message and encounters will resonate far beyond the day’s events.
