The Board of Directors of the North West Cooperative Association Ltd has appointed Mathew Ngangwa as the new General Manager.

North West Cooperative Association Ltd new GM

The decision was announced at the close of a recent board meeting chaired by Board President Bayo Peter Ndikwa. Mathew Ngangwa had been serving as interim General Manager in his capacity as Chief of Administration and Personnel following the passing of the late General Manager, Waindim Timothy Ntam.

The appointment places a seasoned cooperative administrator at the head of the association at a time when the sector continues to face both structural and market pressures. Mathew Ngangwa brings several years of experience within the cooperative, having held key administrative and leadership roles and represented the association in various institutional and sector engagements.

His background in cooperative operations and farmer support is expected to provide continuity while also addressing the evolving demands of coffee production and marketing. According to the Bayo Peter, his familiarity with internal systems and external partnerships positions him to stabilise operations and drive forward strategic priorities.

As General Manager, Mathew Ngangwa will be responsible for both the strategic direction and day to day management of the association. His mandate includes strengthening services to farmers, improving operational efficiency and expanding market opportunities for the cooperative’s coffee. He is also expected to consolidate NWCA’s standing within the coffee sector in Cameroon at a time when quality, traceability and competitiveness remain critical.

The appointment comes against the backdrop of a leadership gap created by the death of Waindim Timothy Ntam, whose tenure was marked by efforts to reinforce the cooperative structure and support coffee farmers across the North West. His passing in recent months left both an administrative and symbolic void within the association.

By turning to an internal candidate, the Board appears to be signalling a preference for continuity while maintaining institutional memory. It also reflects confidence in a leadership model rooted in long term service within the cooperative movement.

In its statement, the Board expressed full confidence in Mathew Ngangwa’s ability to lead the association and advance its mission. The emphasis, it noted, will remain on improving farmer livelihoods, strengthening the cooperative framework and ensuring that NWCA continues to play a central role in the country’s coffee economy.
