Light Outreach Foundation,a charitable non profit organization has announced a program to assist over 5,000 orphans and vulnerable return to school in the 2026/2027 academic year.
The new academic year will kick off on September 7,2026 , according to an official calendar released by the government.
Founder/Director Akossa Nkeh Thomas,made the announcement in a press conference at the organisations office in Bamenda on Friday August 28,2026.
The assistance comprise of didactic materials,school shoes ,exams fees and tuition for those in examination classes.
"We want to see children go to school no matter the situation" Akossa Nkeh Thomas told reporters.
Beneficiaries have been drawn from five regions following a criteria anchored on need based assessment
In 2025, Light Outreach Foundation sponsored 2,000 orphans and vulnerable through school.
Beneficiaries have increased this year,according to the founder.
"we are doing it big this time around.Last year,we assisted 2,000 children.This year we are doing 5,000" he announced.
Orphans and vulnerable children identified for assistance have been selected from 10 villages of five regions of the country notably Littoral,East,West , North West and South West.
Aside announcing the communities and number of beneficiaries,Light Outreach Foundation unveiled the package intended to assist children to school.
"We normally provide bags,books,rulers,pens and all didactic materials needed for learning" he said adding, "We also provide school shoes,pay tuition and examination fees for those in class six and form five"
According to Light Outreach Foundation founder, there are also copies of Rhapsody of Realities,a Christian book authored and donated by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome to accompany students morally.
"We Minister christ to them.We speak the gospel and let them know nothing is better than peace.You can not talk about peace without talking about Jesus" he emphasized adding, "Our partner Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has sent 10,000 copies free of charge for every child to read as their daily routine and understand how to live morally"
Over the years,Light Outreach Foundation has gone beyond providing didactics to awarding the performant children in school.
The charitable organization works with traditional authorities and other resources persons to identify children in need.They as well do follow up ensuring that materials donated are used judiciously.
"At the end of every academic year,we give awards to those with academic excellence in a bid to encourage them work harder in school" he noted.
He revealed that, " we are encouraged by the wonderful performance in school"
"We keep adding the number because we have seen the outcome of it.Every Child we gave assistance to school as confirmed from head teachers and principals who also work with us closely to see that children are effective in school". he noted
During the presser,Akossa Nkeh Thomas,Founder of Light Outreach Foundation shared some challenges faced in addressing community needs.The challenges,he said are not limited to insecurity, inaccessibility and administrative bottlenecks.
"it has really been challenging penetrating communities in the North West and South West Regions due to insecurity.We also have the problem of bad roads.Another one is administrative bottlenecks where we present our authorization from social affairs to carry out our activities but security and administrative officials will tell us,they don't recognize it." he explained.
Light Outreach Foundation was created in 2013 with the vision to restore hope to orphans, vulnerable children and widows.It commenced charitable activities same Year by helping 2 orphans.In 2015, it acquired legal status and registered 50 children.The number has increased yearly according to the records of the organisations.
Apart from helping children,the organisation also focuses on the welfare of widows.For widows below 50 years,the founder said they are empowered with skills and start up capital for business while those above 50 years received regular life support .
The charitable organization he said is funded from his effort and that of partners.According to him,his life experience of losing both parents at a young age with no one to sponsor him through school motivated to him to go into charity after struggling through life
