It is with deep sorrow that I received news of the tragic incident at the stream that separate Bayelle and Mugheb quarter, popularly known as Mile 2 bridge in my Fondom, Nkwen, which claimed precious lives and left several families in mourning. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and my sincere sympathy to those who were injured and are receiving care. May you find strength and comfort in this difficult moment.
As we continue to face the realities of the rainy season, I strongly urge all residents of Nkwen and the wider Bamenda community to remain vigilant and exercise extreme caution, especially around construction areas, water channels and temporary crossings. I cannot overemphasise the importance of avoiding risky movements during heavy rainfall, as such actions may expose lives to preventable danger.
I appeal to every member of our community to take personal responsibility for their safety and to respect all warning signs and guidelines issued by the relevant authorities and contractors. Development is necessary for our progress, but it must go hand in hand with the protection of human life. Let us all remain attentive, disciplined and cooperative so that such tragedies do not occur again.
In this period of grief, I encourage unity, mutual support and compassion among our people. Let us stand together in solidarity with the affected families and support one another as one community.
I pray for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed and ask the Almighty to grant comfort, healing and strength to all who are affected.
