The 41st anniversary of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) in Boyo IV Section was marked with a strong call for generational renewal, as party leaders urged young and dynamic militants to step forward and assume greater responsibility ahead of upcoming local elections. The celebration, held in Fonfuka on March 24, 2026, drew a massive crowd of party faithful, signaling continued grassroots support for the ruling party in the area.

Speaking during the event, Senator Wanlo John emphasized the importance of youth participation in ensuring the continuity and strength of the CPDM. He encouraged young militants to embrace leadership with discipline, responsibility, and respect for the party’s democratic principles. According to him, grooming a new generation of leaders is vital for sustaining the party’s legacy of delivering on its promises to the people.

The senator, widely regarded as a unifying figure within the Boyo IV Section, praised militants for their unwavering loyalty to the CPDM and to President Paul Biya, as demonstrated by the impressive turnout. He cautioned against falling prey to what he described as distractions, false narratives, and empty promises from political opponents. Drawing inspiration from popular culture, he referenced musician Lapiro de Mbanga’s famous song “No Make Erreur,” urging supporters to remain vigilant and avoid political missteps.

In his remarks, Section President Ban Michael reiterated that the CPDM remains the most viable political platform for the development of Bum. He warned that any wrong political choices, particularly during the forthcoming local elections, could have serious consequences for the subdivision. He also extended an olive branch to militants who may have become disillusioned, encouraging them to return and contribute to building a stronger and more prosperous community.

Mayor Gwe Philip used the occasion to highlight the tangible development strides made in Bum under CPDM leadership. He revealed that public investment projects worth over 375 million CFA francs are expected to be implemented in the area this year alone. According to him, the scale of development in Bum has become a source of admiration and even envy among other councils.

Reflecting on the past decade, the mayor noted significant transformations in infrastructure and public services, asserting that the progress achieved is visible and impactful. While acknowledging his 19-year tenure as mayor, he made it clear that leadership is not permanent and encouraged young party members to prepare themselves to take over in the future.

He further underscored Boyo IV’s strategic importance within the region, noting that it was the only section in the division to wrest control from the opposition and maintain it consistently. Today, he added, the CPDM controls 33 out of 34 councils in the Northwest Region, a testament to its political resilience.

The alternate Senator Nuh Esther, also addressed the gathering, urging women to actively register and participate in the electoral process. She stressed the importance of massive voter turnout in favor of the CPDM to sustain ongoing development initiatives in Bum.

As guest of honor, the Divisional Officer of Bum Subdivision, Tumassang Walter, offered a pragmatic perspective on political power. He noted that political actors rarely relinquish power voluntarily, but instead strive to consolidate and maintain it. Quoting former Prime Minister Simon Achidi Achu’s famous phrase, “Scratch my back, I scratch yours,” he reminded the audience that aligning with the ruling party often brings tangible benefits.

The anniversary celebration thus served not only as a moment of reflection but also as a strategic rallying point, reinforcing party unity and preparing the next generation for leadership in Boyo IV.
