Muslim communities across Bum and Misaje Subdivisions in the North West Region gathered in a solemn ecumenical service at the mosque in Fonfuka, offering prayers for peace and thanksgiving for the life of Senator Wanlo John. The event brought together Islamic faithful, traditional authorities, and community leaders in a moment marked by gratitude, unity, and renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence.

The prayers were particularly dedicated to Senator Wanlo John, who survived a serious accident in Douala last year. Participants expressed deep appreciation to Allah for preserving his life, describing his recovery as a testimony of divine mercy and grace. In their messages, Muslim leaders reassured the senator of their continuous spiritual support, pledging to keep him in their prayers as he continues his service to the nation.

Beyond the thanksgiving, the gathering served as a platform to fervently pray for lasting peace in Cameroon, especially in the North West Region which has witnessed years of socio-political unrest. Religious leaders emphasized the central role of faith in fostering reconciliation and harmony within communities.

Prominent among those present were the Sarki of Dumbu, Awalu Ali,  Ardor Bobo Joli, Ardor Buba and the Sarki of Konene, Mayor Balla, alongside other respected figures. In a united voice, they reiterated that Islam is fundamentally a religion of peace, firmly distancing their communities from any acts of violence or extremism. They called on all believers to embody the true teachings of Islam by promoting dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect.

The occasion also highlighted development within the local Muslim community, notably the ongoing project to reconstruct the mosque at the Hausa Chief’s palace in Fonfuka. Leaders used the opportunity to sensitize the faithful on the spiritual significance of contributing to such a project. They reminded attendees of the teachings of the Holy Qur’an, which promise abundant blessings to those who support the building of places of worship.
