Journalists, officials and students meet as region
launches its first major platform to rebuild a media battered by crisis.
Bamenda became the centre of media debate this Thursday, 15 January 2025, as the maiden North West Media Forum officially opened, bringing together journalists, trainers, students, elected officials and government officials to confront the crisis facing the press in the region.
Organised by the Cameroon Association of English Speaking
Journalists, CAMASEJ, Bamenda Chapter, the two day forum, running from 15 to 16
January, is the first coordinated regional effort to create solutions for
journalism in the North West.
Under the theme “Reviving the Media: Reclaiming dignity, rebuilding journalism, renewing hope,” discussions are focusing on poor working conditions, threats to press freedom, responsible reporting in a conflict affected environment, and the idea of a collective social security framework for journalists.
Opening remarks came from the Bamenda Chapter President of CAMASEJ, Sah Terence Animbom, and the National President, Jude Viban, both calling for unity, professionalism and renewed commitment to public interest journalism.
