At the same session, His Majesty Fon Amidu Nji of Nkambe has been elected President of the North West House of Chiefs with an overwhelming 88 of the 90 votes cast. He becomes the second president of the House and Vice President of the North West Regional Executive Council, succeeding Fon Yakum Kevin Teuvih of Bambalang.

The House of Chiefs functions as the Upper House of the Assembly, mandated to review proposed deliberations. Fon Amidu Nji’s election comes at a time when traditional institutions face the challenge of rehabilitating destroyed palaces and restoring eroded cultural values.

Speaking after his re-election, Professor Fru Angwafo pledged inclusive leadership, closer collaboration with traditional authorities and strengthened community dialogue to advance peace and development.

Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique congratulated both leaders, calling on them to work with the state to consolidate peace and counter insecurity in the region.

The newly elected officials will be formally installed on a date to be announced.
