Recognition from climate journalists affirms the platform’s growing influence in environmental reporting and public interest journalism.
The honour was conferred by the Cameroon Climate Journalism Network during activities marking World Soil Day on 5 December 2025 in Bamenda. The award also forms part of the Network’s 10th Anniversary celebrations, recognising media organisations whose work supports climate resilience, biosphere protection and sustainable development.
According to the award certificate, Hilltopvoices emerged winner in the online reporting category under the Cameroon Media Award of Excellence, following an evaluation of its editorial consistency, public interest focus and contribution to climate awareness.
Presenting the award on behalf of CCJN, National Coordinator Tamukong Roland Angong described the recognition as well deserved, noting that Hilltopvoices has maintained a clear editorial commitment to development driven reporting at a time when environmental issues demand sustained public attention.
The award was jointly endorsed by the Award Management Committee chaired by Professor Tita Samuel Nfon of Cornerstone University, underscoring the credibility of the process and the national character of the distinction.
Branded as the Cameroon Climate Resilience Media Award, the honour is reserved for media actors whose work promotes biosphere conservation, environmental protection and responsible development narratives. Organisers said Hilltopvoices stood out for translating complex climate and governance issues into accessible stories that resonate with local communities.
The recognition adds to Hilltopvoices’ growing profile as a development focused media organisation with roots in community reporting and a widening national reach. It also reinforces the role of independent online platforms in shaping informed public debate on climate change, sustainability and governance in Cameroon.
For Hilltopvoices Communications Group Ltd's administrator Bakah Derick, the award is both an affirmation and a responsibility. It signals trust earned through consistent reporting and sets the bar higher for continued engagement with issues that affect people, policy and the environment.
