The Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea arrived in Bamenda on Thursday evening ahead of the rededication of the Metropolitan Cathedral. Archbishop José Avelino Bettencourt's convoy was welcomed at Matazem by an enthusiastic crowd that lined the gateway into the city.
The Nuncio made several brief stops along the route, acknowledging groups that had gathered to greet him before proceeding to the cathedral grounds at Big Mankon.
Soon after arrival, he was seen in the iconic Atoghu, the North West’s signature traditional outfit, a gesture that drew warm applause from those present.
Later in the night, he joined Christians for a vigil held as spiritual preparation for today’s ceremony.
His visit sets the tone for what is expected to be one of the Archdiocese’s most important liturgical events in recent years.
