Campaign Pulse 2025: UDC candidate Patricia Tomaino launches campaign with call for inclusive, transparent governance

The Cameroon Democratic Union (UDC) has officially joined the presidential race with the launch of its candidate, Hon. Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya, who unveiled her programme during a gathering in Yaoundé on Saturday 27 September.

Addressing the many supporters at what the party described as a “Giga Meeting,” Mrs Ndam Njoya outlined her vision for “a more inclusive and transparent Cameroon,” promising constitutional reform, institutional renewal, and responsible governance if elected.

Among her key commitments is the revision of the Constitution to broaden voter participation, alongside the introduction of a two-round electoral system to strengthen legitimacy. She pledged to establish a presidential term of five years, renewable only once, and to reduce the size of government to 15 ministries.

In a firm nod to transparency, the UDC candidate vowed to enforce Article 66 on the declaration of assets, a long-standing but rarely applied constitutional provision, and to create a Court of Auditors to ensure financial accountability.

Her programme also emphasises job creation, the responsible management of natural resources, and the building of a society anchored in justice, equality, fairness, teamwork, discipline, inclusion, dignity and respect for cultural and ethical values.

The Yaoundé launch also highlighted the UDC’s efforts to present itself as a coalition force. Several political party leaders from across the spectrum joined Mrs Ndam Njoya on stage, a move the party said underscored its “strength, credibility and capacity to federate energies.”

“The UDC proves once again that it is not only a political formation but a real national movement,” the party said in a statement on its Facebook page. “With these committed leaders by her side, the UDC candidate affirms herself as the voice of credible change and the best alternative for the future of Cameroon.”

The rally positions Mrs Ndam Njoya as one of the few female contenders in the 12 October presidential election, a fact analysts say could further diversify debate around governance and national renewal in the weeks ahead.
