The Bamenda III Council Inclusive Royal Tournament 2025 was not only about football excellence but also about recognising the unsung heroes whose service, sacrifice and creativity gave the event its distinctive community spirit.

Two community volunteers, Tabah Edwin and Tangang Ignatius, received Certificates of Appreciation for their joint initiative to rehabilitate a sports facility in Manda, Nkwen. Their efforts, which improved the quality of community sports infrastructure, directly enhanced this year’s competition.

“This recognition is a way to say thank you for putting your community first,” Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwe remarked, as the pair received applause from the packed crowd.

The organising committee also came under the spotlight as four of its members were publicly acknowledged for their sacrifices and service towards the success of the tournament. They were honoured with Certificates signed by the Mayor, underscoring the Council’s commitment to encouraging volunteerism and civic responsibility.

Special recognition was given to Azeh Bride Acho, whose creativity in graphic design and commitment to visibility greatly boosted the tournament’s outreach. From designing flyers to providing matchday score updates, Azeh Bride’s contribution kept fans informed and engaged throughout the competition. Beyond his volunteer service, Azeh Bride is a budding football coach with a federal licence B from the Cameroon Football Federation. A graduate of the University of Bamenda with a degree in Geography and Planning, he combines his passion for football with leadership and digital creativity, showing promise as one of the region’s emerging sports talents.

In a touching moment that underlined the value placed on community spirit, HRH Fon Azehfor III of Nkwen personally added a cash prize to Bride’s recognition.

By celebrating these contributions, the Bamenda III Council Inclusive Royal Tournament once again demonstrated that community development is not just about football, but about people and ordinary citizens whose dedication to service makes extraordinary impact.

Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwe addressing final event

The Bamenda III Council Inclusive Royal Tournament has, over the years, grown into one of the municipality’s biggest community events, blending football, inclusion, and civic pride. Initiated by the Bamenda III Council under the leadership of Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwe, the tournament was designed not only as a platform for young football talents to shine but also as a space to promote unity, peace and social inclusion through sport.

The 2025 edition stood out for its colour, organisation, and community-driven spirit. With clubs across the municipality competing, people with disabilities showcasing their abilities in demonstration matches, and sponsors rallying behind local sports, the tournament became a celebration of both talent and service.
