The Constitutional Council on Tuesday, 29 July, began examining appeals filed by candidates whose nominations were rejected by Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) for the 12 October 2025 presidential election.
According to information obtained by our newsroom, around 20 appeals have been lodged with the Council’s registry. Among them is that of Maurice Kamto, former president of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC), who is running under the banner of the African Movement for New Independence and Democracy (MANIDEM). Kamto is seeking the annulment of ELECAM’s decision to disqualify his candidacy.
In a separate petition, Léon Theiller Onana, a member of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), has called on the Council’s judges to invalidate the candidacy of incumbent President Paul Biya, alleging irregularities in his nomination.
The Constitutional Council has a period of ten days to rule on these electoral disputes and release the final list of candidates for the presidential race scheduled for 12 October 2025.
