Many African businesses continue to struggle with the complexities and hidden costs of international shipping, a long-standing barrier to global trade expansion across the continent. From unclear customs duties to inaccurate shipping weight estimations, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) often face delays, inflated costs, and a lack of transparency in the logistics process challenges that limit their competitiveness on the world stage.
Responding to these frustrations, Logidoo, the pan-African logistics platform, has launched two new digital tools designed to revolutionise cross-border trade for African businesses and individuals. The innovations which include a volumetric weight simulator and a customs duties simulator promise to make international shipping faster, simpler, and more transparent.
“These tools tackle the uncertainty and complexity that often discourages African businesses from trading globally... Now, users can get accurate shipping estimates in seconds, no specialised knowledge or long consultations required.” Tamsir Ousmane Traore, CEO of Logidoo said
Powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), the tools are particularly beneficial for e-commerce entrepreneurs, importers, and smaller enterprises who rely on fast, dependable cost projections to make informed business decisions. They aim to eliminate the guesswork that has traditionally slowed trade and increased costs.
With just a photo, the volumetric weight simulator calculates the dimensional weight of a package, ensuring precise shipping quotes. Meanwhile, the customs duties simulator allows users to estimate import charges by inputting a product description or Harmonised System (HS) code, also factoring in volume and insurance where applicable.
“For too long, small businesses have lacked access to reliable shipping estimates... Our simulators offer the kind of real-time cost clarity that only big companies used to have now available to anyone with a smartphone.” Traore noted
Now live at logidoo.co, the simulators are accessible across several African countries, including Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Tunisia, Benin, and Cameroon.
This digital launch is part of Logidoo’s broader mission to democratise access to international markets through smart technology. The company is already widely recognised for its groupage shipping services, which enable businesses to share container space and significantly reduce freight costs.
“We are breaking down barriers to trade with practical, easy-to-use tools... When small businesses can see what shipping will cost, they’re more empowered to grow and explore new markets.” Traore added
Industry experts have welcomed the move, noting it could mark a significant advance in enhancing Africa’s logistics infrastructure by providing inclusive, tech-driven solutions tailored to the needs of everyday entrepreneurs.
