Cameroon bloggers summit highlights blogging as a development tool

The first ever bloggers summit in Cameroon has highlighted blogging as a development tool.
The bloggers from across Cameroon who have been in Douala from October 25 under the banner of Cameroon Bloggers Association ABC are reflecting around the theme Blogging as a development tool.


Chosen with reference to the United Nation’s UN Sustainable Development Goal, the summit seeks to make blogging an economic and business activity in Cameroon.

Speaking during the Summit, Fotso Fonkam elaborated on who a blogger is and why they blog. He explained the characteristic of the sector focusing on its characteristics and form maintaining that it is interactive, brings carried themes, it is free, subjective and organised in different categories.



The shortcomings and outlooks of blogging in Cameroon featured prominently in discussions with that is not yet a considered sector in Cameroon. It was observed that blogging is not known by the public and administrative authorities. This was an open floor discussion for all members. Many pointed at inaccessibility to internet in some parts of the country, the confusion between who is a blogger, content creator and influencer.


To be relevant, It was unanimously agreed bloggers do their job with professionally, with proposal on the introduction and use of guest bloggers, specialization and activism as a remedy to the short comings of blogging in Cameroon.

Speaking during the official opening ceremony, the outgoing president Rene Nkowa outgoing President of ABC noted that though association is already functioning, the summit was intended for all bloggers in Cameroon as a way to unit forces to set standards for the fast growing sector.


SABC,TV5 Monde Afrique, Nestle and Activspaces are the official sponsors of the summit with partners at birth like the UN and Nestle as partners still standing by the association.  Nyongo FM Dla, Advise Agency and Radio Campusto in France official broadcasters of bloggers activities for 6 months have also joined the partnership list.

Created in Yaoundé on the 13th of April 2017 with a target of 60members and currently with 42, ABC hopes to be the hug for bloggers in Cameroon.

North West Cameroon: Remarkable Cultures I- The Nso People

They own, and with pride, use Lamnso (language of Nso) anywhere they are found.
