For the Past 25years, the Member of Parliament for Bamenda
Hon Fobi Nchinda Simon has donated a multidisciplinary sports competition worth
a million francs to the Nkwen community in a bid to keep the young people busy
and to develop their talents. Comprising of a male and female football, a 4.5km
marathon and a handball com
petition, the holiday event donated in Honour of the
immediate pass Fon of Nkwen was baptized the “Fon Ngufor multidisciplinary
sports competition”
For this 25years it emerged that the event was the biggest
assembly of Youths in Nkwen every summer. Being from Nkwen himself Hon Fobi
Nchinda Simon an accomplished Architect decided to offer a million Francs every
year with a compulsory quarter dedicated for the implementation of a community
based project. Within these years, public taps and community halls have been constructed,
scholarships offered, amongst others.
Handing over the last quarter for 2013 (the 25th
edition) Mr James Fobi on behalf of the MP thanked everyone who has supported
the organization of the 25th editions of the “Fon Ngufor multidisciplinary
sports competition”. While wishing all well during this year’s competition Pa
Jamy as he is popularly known opined that it was with great delight that he
performed the handing over ritual.
It is worth nothing that Hon Fobi sponsored this competition
for many years before deciding to run for parliament in 2007. His entry into
Cameroon’s National assembly on the ticket of the Social Democratic Front SDF was
highly celebrated during the 2008 finals.
Amongst those who showed up for the handing over was Mayor
Fongu Cletus for Bamenda three Subdivisional Council, Muma Azehfor 2nd deputy to the Fon of Nkwen, members of the organizing
committee and some members of the Nkwen Students Union.
While addressing the event Mayor Fongu Called for harmony
between the Nkwen Student Union and members of the organizing committee
especially at this time that the Bamenda three Council has taken over the
sponsorship of the competition.
Confirming the sponsorship arrangements, Muma Azehfor 2nd deputy
to the Fon of Nkwen disclosed that over a million francs will be given by the
council and the competition will be re-baptized The “Fon Azehfor
multidisciplinary sports competition” this money he added will be distributed
in all fairness for the organization and prizes to winners in the various competitions.
The competitions have traditionally been hosted at the
Niboung Government School Field.
The 25years history of the “Fon Ngufor multidisciplinary
sports competition” will always remember the organizational contributions of
people like Mr Kaba Cyprian, Mr Atanga Marcelous, Nganlung Elvis, the popular
Ndi Fidelis and others
