As government fails, Community in Bamenda takes initiative to supply self with water.




  The community of New layout (Ntabru) in Bamenda III Subdivision have demonstrated an uncommon community development spirit with the realization of a water project in a city where having access to drinkable water has remained a major challenge. Opening the water for use this Tuesday March 18, 2014, the Divisional Officer for Bamenda III Ayuk Takang Walter encouraged the community to preserve the project jealously as it is a necessity in life.

Speaking earlier on, the President of the Development Committee Ndagam Augustine and his secretary Amana Daniel acknowledged support received from the population, a community patron late Bobe Yong Francis, The Bamenda III Council, The non for profit charity Strategic Humanitarian Services SHUMAS and other administrative services.

Their support the community representatives indicated has seen the realization of a water catchment, 1000meters of pipe line and two stand taps being phase I of the project. For the Phase II Mr Ndagam Augustine opined that many more taps will be spread across the community hence the need for more support to get materials like pipes, cement, sand and others.

Other speakers at the event where  Madam Lilian Nyuykighan Programmes Coordinator for SHUMAS who observed that New Layout scored high on their ratings for community participation scoring over 50% on 60%.

Mayor Forgu Tanwe of the Bamenda III Council while encouraging members of the community to contribute willingly their maintenance fee edged the management committee to be accountable to the population.
The cutting of the ribbon by the Divisional Officer opened the water for consumption.
