Senatorial Elections 2023: Voting closed

By Bakah Derick  Voting for senatorial elections has closed in Polling stations and centers in Cameroon. According to the electoral laws in the country, voting is expected to close at 6pm. Sources from across the region indicate a slightly over 80 percent voter turnout with several proxies reported in the restive Northwest Region.  Picture by Mbuh Stella  Municpal and regional councilors in Cameroon have been voting Senators for the third legislature this Sunday 12 March 2023.  No major incident has been reported across the Northwest despite the over six years old raging armed.  Counting is going on at press time. Senatorial Elections 2023: Voting ending just shortly after noon with over 22 proxies in Boyo

By Bakah Derick  Sources from the divisional headquarters of Boyo say almost 100 of the 122 voters expected for  voting have effectively voted in GTHS Fundong. The Mayors of Fundong, Belo, Njinikom and Funfuka are reported to have led their councilors in the voting exercise.  Ballot box just before voting started  The voting that started at about 8am according to our sources in Fundong involved 112 municpal councilors and 10 regional coordinators.  Boyo is one of the divisions seriously affected by the ongoing armed conflict in the region.   Just shortly after noon, the voting rate is over 80 percent in the other divisional headquarters including Mezam.  Regional councilors are taking part in the elections for the first time.  Streets are empty in the city of Bamenda like elsewhere in the region following a ghost town called call by advocates for a new country including the North West region.  Vote counting is expected to begin by 6pm.
