AFCON 2021: Tunisia ends road for over-rated Nigeria, Coach stands down

By Bakah Derick The Super Eagles have come to the end of their road at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2021. Nigeria was ousted by Tunisia following a 47th minute goal scored by Msakni on Sunday 23 January 2022.  Alex Iwobi's red card made matters difficult helping them to end 90mins without a goal. The Carthage eagles this clinched the second available quarter finals ticket.  After winning all three group matches against Egypt, Sudan and Guinea Bissau, Nigeria was generally seen as favourite against a Tunisia side affected by several cases of COVID-19.  Caretaker trainer of the Super Eagles who led the team to Cameoon has indicated his decision to go back to his previous functions after being questioned of his future.  "What happens next is that I’m the interim coach and Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)....I will go back to my position and allow the NFF make a decision on the way forward,” Augustine Eguavoen said.
