As trauma cases linked to the North West and South West crisis continue to rise, a women led civic group has stepped in with practical support for one of the region’s key rehabilitation centres.

In response to growing mental health challenges caused by the ongoing conflict in the North West and South West regions, Cameroon Women in Action Society (CAWAS), in partnership with Save the Community, has carried out a solidarity visit to the Emmaus Rehabilitation Centre.

CAWAS

The CAWAS team delivered essential items to support the daily running of the centre and the wellbeing of its residents. Donations included food items, buckets, clothing and clinical gloves.

The visit began with a brief meeting with the supervisor of the centre, Bro. Pascal, who welcomed the delegation and outlined the centre’s work in caring for people affected by trauma, displacement and psychological distress linked to the crisis.

The team was later guided through the facility to interact with patients. Many of the residents showed visible signs of recovery through art, craft and routine activities organised as part of their therapy.

CAWAS members said the visit was motivated by the sharp rise in mental health cases across conflict affected communities, especially among internally displaced persons and young people.

Save the Community

Gratitude was expressed by the management and residents of Emmaus Rehabilitation Centre to the CAWAS team and to Vivian Mokom, vision bearer of Save the Community, for their timely support.

The initiative is part of CAWAS’ wider efforts to respond to the humanitarian and social effects of the NOSO crisis, with a focus on women, children and vulnerable groups whose mental wellbeing continues to be under strain.
