The Bafut-Tubah MP says the gesture reflects campaign promises, with education, skills training and bereaved families at the heart of the intervention.
Honourable Agho Oliver Bamenju, Member of Parliament for the Bafut-Tubah Constituency, has provided assistance to vulnerable families and young people affected by recent hardships, reaffirming his commitment to community based support and inclusive parliamentary action.
Hon. Agho Oliver Bamenju handing supportThe assistance was handed over in Bamenda on Tuesday, December 18, during an engagement with beneficiaries drawn largely from Sabga in Tubah subdivision. The intervention targets youths seeking vocational training, as well as students currently registering for the GCE examinations.
Speaking to Hilltopvoices after the gesture, Hon Agho Oliver said the action was in line with promises made during his election campaign and with a long standing culture of accountability. He explained that the initiative prioritises vulnerable groups, especially young girls and boys, and aims to build lasting trust between elected officials and their constituents.
He noted that part of the support also fulfils a pledge he made during a visit to Sabga following a tragic incident that left several families bereaved in November 2025. According to the MP, the assistance is intended to ensure that affected households can begin the new academic year with greater stability and dignity.
Commissioner for cconomy at the reginal Assembly handing supportAddressing concerns about follow up and impact, Hon Agho Oliver said the programme is based on a prior community needs assessment. Traditional authorities, including the Lamido, and other community leaders are actively involved in monitoring the beneficiaries. He added that training centres and instructors have already been identified and engaged, with beneficiary numbers deliberately reduced to ensure effectiveness and close supervision.
“We are confident that after one year, we will return to witness their graduation,” he said, stressing that the approach is participatory and focused on measurable outcomes.
Participants at the eventBeneficiaries welcomed the support with emotion and gratitude. Mariamo, a resident of Sabga who lost a loved one in the incident, described the gesture as a source of renewed hope. She thanked the MP and his partners for standing by the community at a difficult time and prayed for continued strength and support.
The initiative adds to a growing list of constituency level actions by the MP aimed at linking social assistance with education and skills development, as local leaders seek practical responses to the challenges facing young people and vulnerable families in the North West Region.
