The North West Regional Assembly (NWRA) has officially commenced construction work on the North West Mutan Market in Bamenda III, with the project’s contractor installation ceremony led by the President of the Regional Executive Council, Prof. Fru Angwafo III, on 22 October 2025.

The symbolic event, held at the Industrial Zones Development and Management Authority (MAGZI) site in Nkwen, marked the formal start of the project financed under the PROLOG programme with support from the World Bank. The contract was awarded to Dreamland Connect, which has a 120-day completion window following the start-up service order.

According to project officials, the Mutan Market will form a commercial hub designed to enhance regional trade, improve food safety, and reduce post-harvest losses. Complementary facilities will include a customs clearance warehouse and a food transformation unit, aimed at boosting value-chain activities and revenue generation.

Prof. Fru Angwafo, who doubles as project owner, said the current phase focuses on contractor mobilisation, site demarcation, and the establishment of logistics and safety protocols. Engineers briefed the NWRA delegation on preliminary geotechnical studies, drainage plans, and access routes linking the market to surrounding industrial zones.

The NWRA reaffirmed its commitment to strict oversight and timely delivery, while working closely with PROLOG and World Bank teams to address implementation challenges.
