As Cameroonians head to the polls on Sunday, 12 October 2025, the South West-North West Women’s Task Force (SNWOT) has issued a strong call for responsible citizen engagement and the protection of human rights during the presidential elections.
Members of SNWOT during an advocacy activityIn a statement signed by the General Coordinator, Clotilda Andiensa Waah, the SNWOT expressed concern over rising tensions, hate speech, and intimidation tactics observed throughout the campaign period. The group urged all stakeholders to prioritise the safety of voters, ensuring a free, fair, and transparent electoral process that truly reflects the will of the Cameroonian people.
Highlighting the ongoing challenges in the country, the SNWOT asked voters to consider the devastating impact of the Boko Haram insurgency and the Anglophone crisis on civilians, particularly the growing number of displaced women and girls. The statement stressed that citizens should vote for leaders committed to peace, security, and human dignity.
The statement“Participatory democracy is a key pathway towards peacebuilding... Seize this opportunity to exercise your civic rights: vote intentionally where your security is assured. Let no one decide for you. Let’s VOTE massively on October 12, 2025.”
The SNWOT’s intervention highlights the critical role of civil society, particularly women, in promoting peaceful and responsible electoral participation amidst ongoing conflict and instability in the North West region.
