The political drums of Foumban beat louder on Monday as the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) launched its presidential campaign in the historic Bamoun capital, pledging a sweeping victory for incumbent President Paul Biya.
High profile militants at the campaign eventThe meeting, presided over by Daniel Njankouo Lamère, Chairman of the subdivisional campaign commission, was more than a routine rally. It carried the weight of tradition, symbolism and loyalty, with the Sultan-King of Bamoun, His Majesty El Hadj Muhammad-Nabil Mforifum Mbombo Njoya, lending his presence as a member of the CPDM Central Committee. His appearance was seen as a reaffirmation of the monarchy’s political influence in the region.
But what drew particular attention was the presence of Senator Seidou Mbombo, former president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and an diehard supporter of President Paul Biya. Known nationally for his role in sports administration and locally as a political heavyweight, Seidou Mbombo Njoya’s participation was interpreted as a clear signal of the ruling party’s determination to galvanise every sector of Bamoun society from the palace to the playing field.
Senator Seidou Mbombo Njoya’s (M)His presence as vice-president of Divisional Campaign Commission, further underlining the web of loyalty binding Foumban’s elite to the Paul Biya candidacy.
Addressing militants, Daniel Njankouo Lamère stressed the need for peaceful, disciplined mobilisation.
“Our campaign must reach every social stratum in Foumban. We will do so in peace, without provocation, but with determination to deliver an overwhelming victory for President Biya.” he said
The launch concluded with activists pledging to carry the campaign into every neighbourhood, farm and market square, positioning Foumban not only as a CPDM bastion but also as a critical battlefield in securing the West Region vote.
