The Social Democratic Front (SDF) presidential candidate, Honourable Joshua Osih, has placed his already unveiled “Rescue Plan for Cameroon” at the heart of his campaign, presenting it as the blueprint for change ahead of the 12 October election.
Hon Joshua Osih in KumbaStructured around five major pillars, the plan outlines how Hon. Osih intends to address Cameroon’s longstanding challenges from his first day in office. At the social level, he proposes free National Identity Cards, automatic birth certificates for all children under five, free education through secondary school, and free childbirth and healthcare for children under five. He also pledges to abolish advance rent payments and remove ethnic origin from official documents.
Economically, the SDF candidate has committed to raising the minimum wage to 70,000 CFA francs and simplifying land title acquisition.
Peace and governance form another cornerstone of the plan. Within his first 100 days, the SDF national chairman promises to prioritise resolving the Anglophone crisis and tackling insecurity in the Far North. This would include granting amnesty, releasing non-violent detainees, reviewing the cases of separatist leaders, and launching genuine dialogue on federalism and reconciliation. Emergency humanitarian aid and reconstruction of critical infrastructure are also high on the agenda.
A one-year “catch-up” programme is equally envisaged for the Adamawa, North and Far North Regions. It seeks to reduce poverty, boost employment and address insecurity through major projects such as road and railway rehabilitation, irrigation schemes, solar power expansion, the revival of tourism, and the Transqua initiative to refill Lake Chad.
By putting this five-pronged plan at the centre of his campaign trail, Hon. Joshua Osih is presenting himself as the candidate of reform, reconciliation and social justice seeking to convince voters that the SDF offers a credible path to a fairer and more prosperous Cameroon.
