Persistent political speculation in Cameroon’s pre-election season has fuelled claims that the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC) could align with another presidential candidate ahead of the 2025 polls. Such rumours, circulating widely on social media and in political circles, have raised concerns among supporters about the party’s independence and long-term vision.
To address the uncertainty, the MRC’s interim president, Mamadou Mota, issued a public statement categorically rejecting any suggestion of a formal alliance. He stressed that the party remains united, disciplined, and committed to its mission of bringing about democratic change in Cameroon.
“We do not take sensitive decisions unilaterally,” Mota said, noting that the MRC operates through collective decision-making, grounded in its core values of democracy, justice, and responsibility. While acknowledging that informal contacts with other political actors are normal in a competitive environment, he was firm that no directive has been issued to support another candidate.
According to Mamadou Mota, such exchanges are a sign of the MRC’s openness, not a surrender of its ambitions.
“The speculations and rumours are baseless and bind only their authors,” he declared, urging supporters to remain focused on the party’s primary goal which is securing political alternance through the ballot box.
The interim leader reaffirmed the MRC’s confidence in its mobilisation capacity and called on citizens to join the party’s drive for a fairer, more democratic Cameroon. By confronting misinformation directly and setting out a clear course of action, the MRC seeks to reassure its base, reinforce internal cohesion, and signal to the broader electorate that it will contest the 2025 race on its own terms.
