Inclusive Budgetary Orientation Session Marks New Chapter in Participatory Governance
The Nkambe Council has taken a step towards inclusive local governance by involving community stakeholders in shaping its development priorities for the 2026 financial year. During its budgetary orientation debate session held on Sunday, 28 July 2024, the Council opened its doors to voices from across the municipality.

Chaired by Mayor Nfor Musa Shey, the session brought together sectorial ministries, traditional and religious authorities, civil society organisations, and representatives of women, youth, and community development groups. The gathering served as a platform for dialogue and consensus-building on the council’s future development roadmap.
According to Mayor Musa Shey Nfor, the orientation debate was about building together. He emphasised to his guess that it is the council's responsibility to ensure that the people being serve are at the centre of the decision-making process and that their priorities must shape council actions.
Participants left the session with a sense of ownership and optimism. They welcomed the council’s planned projects for 2026, which include the opening of roads to better link communities, the provision of school infrastructure and learning materials, intensifying hygiene and sanitation campaigns, enhancement of healthcare systems, and investment in renewable energy and environmental protection.
Some of the participants admitted that this kind of engagement gives them hope specially as they are not just being consulted, but are contributing to the development we want to see.
The participatory approach taken by the Nkambe Council aligns with Cameroon’s decentralisation agenda and reinforces principles of accountability, transparency, and grassroots involvement. Stakeholders commended the council for prioritising community-driven development and pledged continued collaboration in the planning and execution phases.
The council’s leadership expressed its commitment to institutionalising the budgetary orientation session as a space for inclusive dialogue and strategic planning.
