Cameroon is on the brink of a digital leap forward as Cameroon Telecommunications Company (CAMTEL) prepares to ignite the next generation of connectivity with its imminent 5G rollout. Announced during the 14th Government Action Fair (SAGO) in Yaoundé, this move promises to reshape how Cameroonians connect, communicate, and create opportunities.
Since 2015, CAMTEL has been a steadfast pillar in the nation's telecommunications landscape, progressively rolling out 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. Now, the company is ready to sprint ahead with 5G — a technology that promises lightning-fast speeds, ultra-low latency, and the power to unlock innovations across sectors from education to healthcare, agriculture, and beyond.

“Since 2015, CAMTEL has deployed 2G, 3G, and 4G technologies at the same level as other operators. Today, we are moving further with 5G infrastructure already in place on the hardware level. All that remains is activating the software components once the national 5G strategy is officially adopted,” Mr Ollé stated.
The implications of this leap are immense. CAMTEL’s ambitious expansion plan aims to nearly double network coverage — from 40% to 80% — early next year. This will bring enhanced service quality and broadband access to millions more Cameroonians, bridging the digital divide and enabling the country’s leap into the digital age.

Under the visionary leadership of Managing Director Judith Yah Sunday Achidi, CAMTEL has become a strategic partner in Cameroon’s digital economy. From cloud computing and cybersecurity to enterprise connectivity, CAMTEL is building the digital backbone for a smarter, more connected nation.
