The Social Democratic Front (SDF) has confirmed that its national Chairperson and presidential hopeful, Hon. Joshua Osih, will officially submit his candidacy for the 12 October 2025 presidential election on Thursday 17 July.
Joshua Osih, SDF presidential candidate
The announcement was made through a press release signed by Nguidjol Ngan, member of the SDF Shadow Cabinet in charge of Information and Media. The statement, released on the evening of Wednesday 16 July, informs both national and international media that Joshua Osih, the SDF’s invested candidate, will appear at the Electoral Council to submit his candidacy. At press time Hilltopvoices has gathered that instead of Yaoundé, Joshua Osih will submit his candidacy at the regional office of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) in Bamenda at 10:00 AM in accordance with the provisions of the national Electoral Code.
Osih’s move comes as no surprise. He was officially nominated as the SDF candidate during the party’s national congress held on 1 March 2025 in Yaoundé, consolidating his leadership and setting the stage for what could be one of the most contested races in Cameroonian political history.
His candidacy will follow that of five others who have already deposited their documents at ELECAM since the opening of the submission window on 12 July. These include:
- Bertin Kisob (Cameroon Party for Social Justice)
- Akere Muna (nominated by Univers Party and allied coalition)
- Kamgan-Tan Eric (Independent)
- Ze Amvene Geneviève (Independent and first female candidate)
- Gwet Jean (Independent)
The political atmosphere has intensified since President Paul Biya convened the electoral college on 11 July, confirming the 12 October election date. With the deadline for submission set for 21 July, more candidates are expected to come forward in the coming days.
Joshua Osih’s entry is likely to reinvigorate the opposition space. Known for his experience in both business and politics, he was the SDF’s candidate in the 2018 presidential race, where he emerged as one of the top challengers to President Biya.
