Elite One Championship 2020/2021: Day Six Snapshots with dramatic end in Garoua

By Bakah Derick

It has been a dramtic end for Day Six of the Elite One Championship. In Garoua, the unavailability of the Roumde Adjia annex stadium the initial venue for the penultimate clash between home side Cotonsport and Canon of Yaounde was at the center of the drama script.

Coton vs Canon

The match eve stadium familarisation could not take place and both teams trained at the private property of the Garoua outfit. This will eventually become the venue of the fixture; a decision by the Cameroon Football Federation FECAFOOT which did not go down well with Canon.

Initially schedulled to begin at 3pm local time, the fixture will start at 4pm because Canon spent time at the initial stadium giving the impression the change of venue was unlawfully done.

The Secretary General of FECAFOOT Benjamin Didier Banlock  had announced the chamge of location following information from the sports ministry that the Rounde Adjia annex stadium is not available. They will finally move to the private stadium of Cotonsport only to receive a 2-0 bashing following two goals from top goal scorer Lambert Araina.

Before the Wednesday April 14 fixture in Garoua, the rest of day six matches were played across the country on Saturday April 10.

In Melong, home side Stade Renard had a filled day humbling visiting Eding of the Lekie 3-0. Eding have remained in a tight corner despite separating with their first coach this season.

Seven goals emerged from the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaounde where Dragon carried the day with a 3-1 win against Yaounde II FC while AS Fortuna kept their unbeaten record urging Djiko FC of Bandjoun 2-1. Yaounde II like Djiko have had a rough start to the season. Sunday's defeats only presented two sides that need to increase their affinity for victories.

In Bamendzi, Bamboutos FC of Mbouda was surprisingly forced to a 1-1 draw by Union of Douala. Sharing the spoils was however not strange for many despite the form of bothsides since the start of the season. The spectacle was however pleasing to the eyes. Panthere Sportive du Nde was excellent with a 1-0 win against New Stars of Douala. Not just did Talla Herman, Ndzana Joel and co produced the lone goal but also a beautiful soccer dance that could give spectators a great moment if they were around.

Just like Union, Avion of Nkam succeeded to impose a draw on the Abakwa boys at home in Bamenda. Defending champion PWD of Bamenda are yet to produce the spectacle expected of them in defense of the title. Their failure to score at home against Avion of Nkam has not gone down well with their fans who think their darling club should do better. Manager David Pagou returned for duty for this fixture after suffering from poor health.

At the CAF excellence center in Mbankomo, Yong Sports Academy YOSA could only score once against a Colombe of Nja and Lobo that had taken a 2-0 lead. Another defeat for Coach Nkabyo and his contingent was another surprise folkowing the beautiful succer they produced. YOSA will need to be more creative infront of the goal post just like the goalkeeping which needs to be properly managed. Colombe seem to have used these weaknesses to relaunch their campaign mindful of the difficult take off this season.

Still in Mbankomo, last season's lead scorer Leon Boyomo scored one of two goals for Astre of Douala that humbled Tonnierre Kalara Club TKC at home. Despite taking off to a promising start, Astre was quick to settle on their style to clinch the day's three available points with a 2-1 win.

Fovu of Baham enjoyed a break and are expexted to return on Sunday April 17, 2021 for day seven of the championship.
