Government announces close to 4bn FCFA to rebuild bridges destroyed in NW/SW

The government of Cameroon through the Minister of Public Works has announced the programming of 3.6 for the rebuilding of bridges destroyed as a result of the on-going armed conflict in the NW/SW regions.
Public Works Minister Nganou Djoumessi made the announcement April 9 during a meeting with Senators and members of Parliament from the NW/SW intended to discuss ways by which the construction and rehabilitation of roads in the regions can better planned and executed.

According to Cameroon Tribune’s Mbom Sixtus, the Minister reassured the law makers that government is taking measures to ensure that construction works in the restive regions continue as planned. 


After listening to the Minister’s balance sheet of works carried out in the regions from 2015 to 2018 and those planned for 2019, the people’s representative took turns to presents the needs of their constituencies and regions as relates to road infrastructure.


Amongst the presented projects by those from the NW region were: farm to market roads, speedy completion of the ring road as well as the Bamenda-Babadjou road. According to the law makers, there is need to give powers to local authorities to follow up the projects and make sure contractors do exactly what is expected from them.
