Recently qualified Second division Teams in
the Northwest Region have begun preparations ahead of the 2014 football
season as 2013 sports season comes to a close in the country.
Northwest third division champions Grassland FC of Nkwen have started
training and recruitment in preparation for the regional second division
championship. The training which is taking place under the supervision
of the newly contracted Head Coach Nwela Ernest started Monday at the
team’s home play ground in Niboung.
Though the new season is expected to start sometime in January 2014,
Talking to Fonkwa Louis Team manager, he told us that he is starting
training this early to be able to meet the aspirations of his bosses
(Team President General Chi Ivo based in Luxembourg in Europe. and Lesley Ndifor the
executive President based in Douala) which is to produce a football team
in the Northwest Region that will practice standard football. While
adding that his team though with a firm origin in Nkwen is not only a
team for Nkwen footballers, Fonkwa Louis opined that he has already
hired the services of three professionals from Douala. He however did
not tell us their teams of origin and their names for privacy reasons he
indicated.
It is worth indicating that Grassland FC became the regional third
division champions after beating Highland FC of Santa 2-0 at the finals
of a round rubbing tournament involving some eight teams from Mezam
division and seven from Momo making a total of fifteen teams.
According to FECAFOOT regulations only 24teams maximum can take part in a
regional second division championship per season. If one were to
conclude that all seventeen teams that participated during the last
season will come back then at least seven of the fifteen teams that took
part in the round rubbing tournament will be eliminated. So far the
disqualified just like the disqualified teams have not been made public.
